Sep 24th 2011 | NEW YORK | from the print edition

1.PepsiCo has started preaching a creed of “performance with purpose”. Chevron, an oil firm, brands itself as a purveyor of “human energy”

2.Commissioned by Dov Seidman, boss of LRN, a firm that advises on corporate culture, and author of “How”, a book arguing that the way firms do business matters as much as what they do, and conducted by the Boston Research Group, the “National Governance, Culture and Leadership Assessment” is based on a survey of thousands of American employees, from every rung of the corporate ladder.
然后,里面的 every rung of the corporate ladder,我觉得说 等级 不如说事 阶层。

A new study suggests there is less to this than it says on the label.

Nearly every big firm claims to be building a more caring and ethical culture.

The study found evidence that such differences matter. Nearly half of those in blind-obedience companies said they had observed unethical behaviour in the previous year,

Chevron, an oil firm, brands itself as a purveyor of “human energy”, though presumably it does not really want you to travel by rickshaw.
rickshaw [ˈrɪkʃɔː], ricksha [ˈrɪkʃə]
n
1. Also called jinrikisha a small two-wheeled passenger vehicle drawn by one or two men, used in parts of Asia
2. Also called trishaw a similar vehicle with three wheels, propelled by a man pedalling as on a tricycle See also autorickshaw

http://www.kekenet.com/study/746_10.shtml
http://define.cnki.net/WebForms/ ... B%E8%A1%8C%E4%B8%BA

companies said they had observed unethical behaviour in the previous year,

compared with around a quarter in the other sorts of firm
around?

More than 90% of employees in self-governing firms
More than?

Bosses are eight times more likely than the average to believe that their organisation is self-governing.
The cheery folk in human resources are also much more optimistic than other employees

1. Also called jinrikisha a small two-wheeled passenger vehicle drawn by one or two men, used in parts of Asia
2. Also called trishaw a similar vehicle with three wheels, propelled by a man pedalling as on a tricycle See also autorickshaw

看你这两个例子,passenger vehicle,propelled by a man pedalling as on a tricycle ,不论是黄包车还是三轮车,意思都是有车夫的(相当于将打的换成打黄包车),所以自行车我认为不妥。

1. Also called jinrikisha a small two-wheeled passenger vehicle drawn by one or two men, used in parts of Asia

而且, drawn by one or two men,drawn是拉,自行车不是用拉的吧...

smooth~.

1. Human energy
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_VoTMOd ... an+energy+words.jpg

2. from every rung of the corporate ladder.

3. Informed Acquiescence Vs. Value-Based Self-Governance

The most common form of culture in modern organizations is often referred to as informed acquiescence. They are rule-based in that the workers learn the rules and agree to abide by them. Rules work their way from the top-down in a fairly controllable and predictable manner. Thus a large organization becomes management-orientated and in turn, a bureaucracy. And it is this bureaucracy that tends to slow things down.

However, many of the leading organizations are becoming more value-based self-governance in that rather than the workforce being governed by “should,” they act upon “can” (Seidman, 2007). They have a small core set of rules that are valued by the workforce. Rather then being motivated to do better, they are inspired. Motivation is controlled somewhat by outside factors, while inspired (similar to “esprit”) is more inside the individual (soul or spirit) and is usually considered the greatest motivator. Being freed from the crippling pace of bureaucracy, value-based companies operate and move faster.
